  17. <p>     He isn't looking for sympathy, just understanding. So said
  18. Pete Rose last week as he ended five months in an Illinois
  19. prison for tax cheating and checked into a Cincinnati halfway
  20. house. For the next three months, Rose, who could still be
  21. barred from baseball's Hall of Fame, will share a room and bath
  22. and sleep on a metal-spring bed. He's starting his 1,000 hours
  23. of community service by helping teach phys ed to local kids.
  24. They couldn't be happier: about a dozen of them surrounded Rose
  25. as he entered his new home and chanted, "Welcome home, Pete."
